Empirical rainfall thresholds for the possible occurrence of landslides have been proposed for different areas, regions, or nations in the world. Global thresholds, i.e., thresholds applicable everywhere in the world, have also been proposed. From the Geography menu located at the top of the page, one can select the rainfall thresholds proposed in the literature for five continents (Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America). Within each continent, one can also select rainfall thresholds established for individual nations or regions. For each of the selected thresholds, the information provided include: (i) type of threshold (e.g., intensity – duration threshold, threshold based on the total event rainfall, rainfall event – duration threshold, rainfall event – intensity threshold, threshold that consider the antecedent rainfall conditions, etc.), (ii) the type of landslide (i.e., soil slip, debris flow, mud flow, lahar, shallow slope failure, slide, earth flow, all landslide types, etc.), (iii) the equation of the threshold, and (iv) the range of applicability of the threshold, (v) specific notes, (vi) the reference to the original work where a threshold was first proposed, and (vii) when available, a graph illustrating the threshold.
